Other bulbs when left for a while do not switch on again when someone enters the hall. I have tried 3 different PIR light bulbs and this one has a unique fearture. ![]() The sensing distance is about 3-5 meters based on the placement of the bulb.Overall, this item scores a five in most of the departments if not all and hence deserves 5 stars. You need to move your arm or body around for it to detect some movement. Merely, sitting in one place and shaking your head won't trigger them. Also, they require the movement to be of a displacement type. They switch off after ~1m of detecting no movement. For a 6W they are comparable to an incandescent 50W bulb and easily light up a 5x5m room. Just let them be and they start functioning as expected. I didn't really understand why therefore thinking both the bulbs I received were faulty. The top dome feels like glass and is thick enough to assure that it wont just break off.Function:When you switch on the bulb for the first time, it comes on and stays for quite sometime. The silver part that is used to dissipate heat is solid and heavy and appears metallic. Most of the bulb is of plastic construction but very good quality. They do not feel cheap like some other ones. There was no damage on the packaging.Build quality:The build quality is what compelled me to write the review. However, the boxes itself are strong cardboard and could probably take all the hits while being shipped. It was just one of those thick plastics wrapped around the bulb's boxes. The packaging was a bit nifty for a product that's being shipped overseas. Nevertheless, expected date was 9th December so arrived well ahead of time. So its most probably being shipped either from China or the USA, where the company says it is based. So here goes.Delivery and packaging:I placed the order on the 6th of November and received the product on the 21st. I must admit the quality of these bulbs had a hand in me writing this review. Ghostbusters, Gremlins or Back to the Future were special favourites! Christmas evening would be the Eastenders Special (I remember the one with Den and Angie vividly still to this day!) and probably something like Morecombe and Wise or the Two Ronnies afterwards. ![]() We watched festive cartoons on TV, played with our new toys and then once everyone arrived, Dad would switch over to the Top of the Pops Christmas special… the best part was finding out what was the Christmas Number 1 that year! The Queens Speech would follow, and after dinner we usually played family board games before watching the Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special, or a blockbuster 80s film for the afternoon. Once the presents were opened, my Dad would then go and get whichever grandparents and extended family members were visiting us that year, whilst Mum started on the Christmas dinner. So wonderful! Typical 80s Christmas Decorations I could never sleep till very late the night before either – my poor Mum! Girl’s and boy’s toy pages in an 80s Argos Catalogue Then one year Mum bought me a diary and I diligently filled one in every day for the next 4 or 5 years, in my attempt to be like Adrian Mole! I remember also receiving a board game each year (my favourites were Guess Who and Connect 4), plus an annual, probably Beano or Whizzer and Chips. The 80s was probably the first time kids and teenagers could listen to their own music or watch things on personal devices, rather than with the rest of the family. Also videos of our favourite films, or comedy series. Plus pop music – on tape, then later on CD. This wish list was then passed on to Santa of course! As we got older we asked for early tech, like a Walkman, boom box stereo, hand held computer games or a portable TV for our room. My brother would have chosen He-Man, Lego and Star Wars. Mine probably included Barbie or Sindy Dolls, Care Bears and My Little Pony. So let’s start with toys & gifts… the Argos catalogue was THE bible for making your Christmas list (long before website wish lists)! We couldn’t wait for it to come out, and would then take it in turns to initial the items we wished for. One family Christmas, probably early 80s at my Aunt & Uncle’s House So that is why it was more exciting… we just didn’t have access to this stuff at other times of year, and it gave us something to really look forward to. The overarching theme I remember at Christmas was getting the things we wouldn’t have any other time of year – new toys, special food, films we had never seen before on TV, along with events and activities to look forward to at school. At the end of it I was 14, so much of my childhood was spent in this decade. ![]() I was born in 1976 and by the time the 80s started I was 4 years old. I don’t know if it’s just that I was a kid at the time, but Christmas seemed more exciting and magical in the 1980s… or maybe it was because things were simpler back then, without distracting smartphones, less overwhelming choice and just having to make do with what was available to us.
